Get students ready for reading! Prior to reading aloud to students or before they start reading a book, it's crucial to set them up for success, and one effective method is through a book walk. This interactive and enjoyable activity is both brief and impactful.

If students always read a book that is too easy for them they won't grow as a reader. And, if they always try to read a book that is too hard for them they will not comprehend it well and their fluency won't grow.
Every student has a "Just Right" independent reading level. Books that are not too difficult or too easy. When students do their Independent Reading with a Just Right book then they will grow in their reading: comprehension, vocabulary and fluency. This video has tips on how to teach students to choose a "Just Right" book and how you can conference with student to check on their reading level.
When the teacher asks a questions and the class "says" or "shouts" the answer: Who said the correct answer? Who said the wrong answer? Who didn't say anything at all? This is very much the most common way for teachers to get an answer to a question they ask in class.
